Eggshells: Eggshells are a common culprit when it comes to clogging drains. The hard edges of the shells collect everything else that goes down the drain, which causes a clog. Grease and oil-based products, such as cooking oils, salad dressings, and fat, should not be flushed down the toilet or drain. They will only stick to the pipes and cause a hazard for your plumbing. They can be used as bird food or mixed with bird seed to feed your backyard birds.
Paint: Some paints are hazardous to your pipes, so don’t pour them down your drain. Make sure to read the label carefully and follow the instructions on the bottle. Non-toilet paper and fibrous paper should never go down your sink. Be sure to always dispose of these products properly. Cleaning products: Some household products are very harsh and harmful to your pipes. They can clog your pipes.
Diaper & baby Wet Wipes: All diapers and baby wet wipes are difficult to dispose of properly, and you should avoid flushing them in your toilet. Also, Q-tips or cotton ear buds which are often used for baby hygiene and care. They tend to clog pipes because they act as binders for other things that go down the drain. These baby products can eventually turn pipe work into blocked drains, which can damage your pipes and cause any sewage to come back up and out of the toilet system. So don’t put them down your drain!
Cooking oil: Many people put cooking oil down the sink to save money, but it can clog the pipes. This oil is not soluble and can cause major problems. It is best to rinse these items out of your kitchen before disposing them down the drain. This way, you’ll be able to use them again in the future. Some people also put the grease from cooking meat down their sinks.
Kitty Litter: If you want to dispose of kitty litter, make sure it is disposed of properly and not down the toilet or drain. Most litter is made of clay and does not break down. Putting the litter down the sink will cause your drain to clog and cause a smell. Emptying your cat litter down the toilet because it contains cat poo would be a bad idea. The cat litter will not flush away! Instead it will stay clogged at the bottom of the toilet basin, causing a blockage to the U-bend.
